About STEM

In Gary, Indiana, our STEM in Scouting program brings engaging, hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math experiences directly into every elementary school in the area. Designed to spark curiosity and build confidence, these programs take place during the school day and currently serve over 1,000 students.

Our Curriculum

Our STEM program in Gary is built around the Cub Scouts curriculum, offering hands-on lessons that align with Indiana state standards for science, math, and engineering. Students participate in a variety of engaging activities drawn directly from the Cub Scout STEM materials, including popular engineering modules like Baloo the Builder and Marble Madness. These lessons encourage problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration while reinforcing core academic concepts. Most of the locations we serve focus on students in grades 3–5, with select sites offering tailored lessons for younger learners in kindergarten through 2nd grade. Each grade level experiences developmentally appropriate activities designed to spark curiosity and build foundational STEM skills
